| The History of the Living Sanctuary of Faith Church of God in Christ |
The commencement of the Living Sanctuary of Faith grew out of a deep hunger in our leader, Elder Bennie L.
Hampton to answer the clarion call of God.
The first church establishment meeting was October 3, 1991. The first meeting began with members:
The name was formulated--Living Sanctuary of Faith Church of God in Christ.
On the last Sunday in December 1991, Pastor Jerome N. Scott Jr., of the Mt. Calvary Church of God in
Christ, anointed and blessed Pastor Bennie L. Hampton and members (shown above) and told us everything
was going to be all right.
The dream came into fruition on January 5, 1992. Our first service was held at the Holiday Inn located at
Madison and Halstead Street in Chicago, Illinois. Pastor Hampton's first office message was "The Blood"
Hebrews 10:1-3. Service hours were Sunday, 2:00-5:00 p.m. and Friday, 7:30-9:30 p.m.
There were ten tense, tender and excited members gathered to see the unveiling of the glory of the temple.
Pastor Hampton was cautious, but filled with fervor and vigor. As the membership began to grow, others
joined our small but diligent numbers. We were a modest number but we were encouraged as more members
such as Elder Thomas Morgan and Deacon Stanley Kerr and their families came.
Because our needs were greater, it was voiced that it would be wise to move out of the hotel to a more
stabilized place. On May 1, 1992, God, being faithful, led our pastor-shepherd to 10 North 5th Avenue,
Maywood, Illinois. This enabled us to have Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday night services and early
morning prayer.
